Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS):
Carbon Capture and Storage (CCUS) is the most direct and effective method for abating and mitigating carbon. VC Fuel focuses on the key elements of the CCUS value chain, including CO2 capture, transport, and storage or utilization. A number of these technologies are already deployed at significant scale. However, there are a number of technologies that are at early and intermediate stages of development that could increase performance, lower costs, and enhance the flexibility of the CCUS process.
VC Fuel focuses on partnering with companies that are developing and scaling CCUS technologies, as well as companies and projects that are implementing end to end CCUS projects. The areas of the CCUS value chain that VC Fuel will focus on include:
- CO2 capture
- CO2 transport
- CO2 storage
- CO2 end use
Some of the companies VC Fuel works with are at the pilot and demonstration plant stage and are proving that their technology works at scale. Additionally, VC Fuel is working on infrastructure companies which leverage proven CCUS technologies to create end to end carbon capture solutions by integrating all key areas of the value chain mentioned above. There are certain geographies where such projects could be particularly attractive, including the Gulf Coast, as they present the opportunity to integrate produced carbon with capture technology, CO2 transport, existing CO2 storage, and multiple end uses for the carbon itself.
